The Lakes

A land of lakes and mountains in the heart of Cumbria, the Lake District was still unknown to me three months before I was commissioned to carry out a landscape study there.

For nearly twenty days I was mesmerized by the mystical and natural charm of this stretch of land that sheltered and inspired poets like Wordsworth and Coleridge. The Lyrical Ballads, which ensued at the beginning of the 19th century paved the way to Romanticism. The grandiose places, forged by the force of the elements, with fickle skies, indeed combine at best the beauty of nature and the perception of the supernatural.
